William "Speck" Barnes Jr., 87, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, surrounded by family at his residence in Soda Springs.
Funeral: 11 a.m. Tuesday in White's Chapel of Memories, 130 Houston Ave., Weatherford.
Interment: Soda Springs Cemetery.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at White's Funeral Home.
William Jeff Barnes Jr. was born Aug. 3, 1923, in Mineral Wells, son of the late William J. and Effie Gant Barnes. He married the former Norma Jean Ashley in Weatherford on Dec. 14, 1946, and they began their life together. He liked woodworking and made knives as a hobby. Speck honorably served his country in the United States Army during World War II.
Speck was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, F.G. and Jimmie Barnes.
Survivors: Wife of 64 years, Norma Jean Barnes; daughter, Kay Sears and husband, Eddie; grandson, Steven John Sears and wife, Paula; granddaughter, Cindy Southern and husband, Jeffery; great-grandchildren, Steven Layne Sears and Corbett Clay Southern; sister, Mary Sanders; brothers, Joe Barnes and T.J. Barnes and wife, Ramona; sister, Linda Barnes; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of loving family and friends.
