DALLAS -- Alice Lillie Hubenak Lindsey, 92, departed Friday, Sept. 25, 2009, to join her beloved husband of 49 years, S.P Lindsey, in God's home. She was the youngest of nine children and the last one living. Service: A tribute to her life will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in White's Chapel of Memories, 130 Houston Ave., Weatherford. Interment: Memory Gardens of the Valley. Visitation: 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at White's. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Alice's memory to C.C. Young Retirement Center, 4829 Lawther Drive, Dallas, Texas 75214; Alzheimer's Foundation, 4144 North Central Expressway, Suite 750 Dallas, Texas 75205-0308; or a charity of choice. Alice was born in Fayetteville on Aug. 27, 1917. After their marriage following a three-week courtship, Alice and S.P. crisscrossed the United States during the Big Band Era while he performed with and for some of the most noted entertainers of the century including Tony Martin (who married Cyd Charisse), Harry James, Fletch Henderson, The Society Band of Everett Hoagland, Frank Sinatra, Benny Goodman, the Dorseys and Guy Lombardo. The couple eventually settled in Weatherford and owned and operated three jewelry stores -- one in Weatherford and two in other cities. Following the sale of the jewelry operation, Alice worked for many years as the head saleslady of N.C. Hall's Jewelers in Fort Worth. Alice was an authority on and renowned for knowing china and silver patterns and for her selling ability on the sales floor. In the late 1960s, she returned to work in Weatherford when she and S.P. purchased the Camera Shop, which had the Hallmark Cards franchise. They added to this location most remarkably the franchises for Radio Shack and Russell Stover candies, thus making the store at the time, because of the retail combination, one of the most unique stores in the entire United States. A very family-oriented person, she, as one of God's angels, quietly and without fanfare, gave to friends, family and neighbors over the decades the benefit of her vast cooking skills. Whenever someone was merely sick or perhaps nearing the twilight of their lives when very little could be eaten, that was when she appeared with some of her specialties. On more than one occasion, it was a near-deathbed wish to "contact Alice for" such or such, and she always complied. A son, Patrick Lindsey, predeceased her. Survivors: Surviving family members are daughter and son-in-law, Helen and David Hannan and granddaughter, Heather Hannan of Dallas; son, Michael and his wife, Linda Lindsey, also of Dallas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
