John Dan McMahan

John McMahan, 69, died peacefully surrounded by his family at home, July 13, 2009, after a four month courageous battle with metastatic melanoma. Graveside services: 10 am, Friday at Memory Gardens of the Valley. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations may be made to Community Hospice of Texas, 6100 Western Place, Ste. 500, Fort Worth, TX 76107 or the American Cancer Society. John Dan McMahan was born March 7, 1940 in Big Spring the son of the late, Dan McMahan, who died in 1939, and Ozelle McMahan. He was raised by his mother, Ozelle and step-father, Harvey Russell. John was raised in Eastland and graduated from Eastland High School in 1958. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.S. degree in business in 1963. In 1963 he married Dianne. John worked in the Governor's Office of Information Services in Austin for several years then at General Dynamics, Lockheed and retired from Computer Science Corp. He was an avid golfer and a huge football fan, especially the University of Texas Longhorns. Since his retirement in 2000, John and Dianne enjoyed traveling with friends all across the United States and Canada in their R.V. He was preceded in death by his parents; and step-father, Harvey Russell. Survivors: Wife of 46 years, Dianne McMahan; children, Dan McMahan and wife, Darlene of Austin, Amanda Williams and husband, Dean of Weatherford; Chris McMahan and wife, Gila of Austin; sister, Ginger Williford; brothers, Al and Robert Russell; grandchildren, Lauren and Lexi Williams, Meredith, Jack, and Kate McMahan, William and Harrison McMahan.
