Garland Wayne Howard, 88, loving father and grandfather passed away Sunday, June 14, 2009, in Fort Worth. Funeral: 10 a.m. Friday in White's Azle Chapel. Interment: 2:30 p.m. in Nancy Smith Cemetery in Glen Rose. Visitation: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at White's Azle Funeral Home. Garland was born April 13, 1921, to James and Allie Howard in Glen Rose. He was a longtime resident of Azle. Garland honorably served his country in World War II in the United States Army. He was awarded two Purple Hearts, the Good Conduct Medal as well as the Distingushed Unit Badge. Garland and wife, Mildred had been married 53 years at the time of her death. Garland loved farming, gardening and fishing when he could find the time. Garland was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mildred; sisters, Faye Withers and Willane Cornish; brothers, Troy and Bobby Howard. Survivors: Sons, Alton Howard and wife, Shelly, of Paradise, Adrian Howard and wife, Alice, of Springtown, Howard Hopkins of Weatherford; daughters, Sharman Ansley and husband, Roe, of Liberty Hill and Glenda Land-Roenicke; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and brother, Roy Howard.
