PALO PINTO -- Dorothy Wheeler, 89, passed away Friday, April 17, 2009,surrounded by family at her home in Palo Pinto. Funeral: 10 a.m. Tuesday at Lone Camp Baptist Church, 108 HooverRoad, Palo Pinto. Burial: Dobbs Valley Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8p.m. Monday at White's Funeral Home, 101 N.E. 4th Ave., MineralWells. The youngest of four children, Dorothy Virginia Ward Wheeler wasborn Sept. 24, 1919, in Weatherford. She lived on the Wheeler homeplace since the time she married S.A. Wheeler, nearly 70 years ago.Dorothy was the first and only person to ever have the distinctionof being appointed Sweetheart of the Parker County Rodeo. She lovedtraveling, spending time outdoors watching the birds, and tendingher garden. Dorothy was a woman of strong Christian beliefs andwill be remembered for teaching her grandchildren The Lord'sPrayer. She also always had cookies for her grandchildren, whom sheloved so dearly. Dorothy was preceded in death by her first husband, S.A. Wheeler in1970; parents; one brother; and two sisters. Survivors: Husband, Thomas Alton Jones of Temple; sons, LynnWheeler and wife, Judy, of Palo Pinto and Gary Wheeler and wife,Debbie, of Gordon; grandchildren, Shane, Stephen, Cindy, Lee, andCody; eight great-grandchildren; special friend and caretaker,Talana Power; and a host of loving family and friends.
