LaFrieda Williams Mock passed away Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009. Funeral: 2 p.m. Thursday at Beulah Baptist Church, 350 Beulah Lane, Millsap. Burial: Memory Gardens of the Valley Memorial Park, 5600 Mineral Wells Highway, Weatherford. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at White's Funeral Home, 130 Houston Avenue, Weatherford. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Beulah Baptist Church or a charity of choice. LaFrieda Mock was born April 1, 1924, in Fox community, west of Weatherford. LaFrieda was valedictorian at Weatherford High School when she graduated in 1941. She also attended Tarleton State College in Stephenville before she married Rudolph in September 1943. After their marriage, they lived in Selma, Ala. until October 1943 when Rudolph was sent overseas during WWII. She returned from Selma to Texas and began her teaching career at Aledo High School, where she taught for four years until the birth of their first daughter, Marilyn. Their second daughter, Linda, was also born in Aledo exactly two years after Marilyn. In December 1951 the Mock family moved to the Fox Community near where LaFrieda's parents lived. LaFrieda resumed her teaching career again in 1954, this time at Millsap High School, until the birth of their youngest child, Bill, in 1955. She did not return to full-time teaching until he was in high school, but was a regular substitute teacher at Millsap. She returned to full-time teaching there in 1969 and taught business classes each year until her retirement in 1984 after teaching for 22 years. The only interruption was a one-year leave of absence while she returned to Tarleton to complete her B.S. degree in Business Education. LaFrieda graduated with highest honors from Tarleton State University on May 14, 1972. LaFrieda was a popular teacher with the students and staff at Millsap - partly because she was seen as someone with a good sense of humor and as someone students could feel comfortable with. LaFrieda also was a valuable member of Beulah Baptist Church, where she was the church pianist for many decades. She will be greatly missed by all whose lives were touched by her wit, intelligence, and caring. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph Mock; and by her parents, Maggie and Fred Williams. Survivors: Her children, Marilyn Mock of Austin, Linda Mock and her husband, Pat Dolan, of Nacogdoches, and Bill Mock and his wife, Vivian, of Weatherford; grandchildren, Elizabeth Parrott of Chicago and Taylor, Thomas, Tristanne, and Tucker Mock all of Weatherford; sister, Chloe Glenn, and sister-in-law, Dorothy Williams, both of Weatherford.
