Billie Nell Gilbert, 77, passed away Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009, surrounded by family at a Fort Worth hospital. Memorial service: 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Dennis, 7600 FM 1189, Dennis. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the Gilbert family requests memorials in Billie's name to the Building Fund at First Baptist Church of Dennis, P.O. Box 160, Dennis 76439. Billie Nell Davis Gilbert was born March 16, 1931, in Parker County, a daughter of the late William and Jewel Gilley Davis. Billie loved Jesus Christ with all her heart and her family and church were her life. She played piano at church for many years until her health would not permit it. She then became church treasurer, a position she retained until her passing. Billie liked to cook, especially her famous 24 hour soup, a soup that everyone loved. Billie was a member of First Baptist Church of Dennis for more than forty years and lived in Parker county most of her life. Billie was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Jasper Alfred Gilbert; son, Troy Wayne Gilbert; parents; and a sister, Dean. Survivors: Daughter, Mary Helen Akin and husband, Charles; sons, Roy Gilbert and wife, Teresa, and Odell Gilbert and wife, Cammy; daughter-in-law, Kathy Gilbert, all of Dennis; 10 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; sisters, Evelyn Wright and husband, Bill, of Fort Worth and Sue Davis of California; numerous nieces and nephews; an extended church family; and a host of loving family and friends.
