Frances E. Carver Murphey, 85, of Weatherford went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, Oct.21, 2008.
She was lovingly surrounded by her family at the time of her death. Frances was born Dec. 30, 1922, in Fort Scott, Kan., to Ercey and Frances Carver. She graduated from Chillicothe High School in Ohio. Frances held positions at Patterson-Wright Field in Dayton, Ohio, and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. during World War II. She married Robert Earl Murphey in April 6, 1943 in Columbus, Ohio. After beginning a family in Ohio, she and Robert moved their nine children to Weatherford, Texas in 1957 to establish a heating-air conditioning business in Fort Worth.
Frances began her college career when her youngest child started kindergarten. After receiving her Associates Degree from Weatherford College, she continued her education on a full academic scholarship to Texas Christian University. She earned a Bachelor¹s and Master¹s Degree in English Literature and graduated magna cum laude. For the next 25 years, she taught English and Literature at Texas Christian University, Weatherford College and Weatherford Independent School District. At retirement, Frances was teaching Remedial Reading at Shirley Hall Middle School. Frances was an active member in the community and her church. She was a lifetime member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Her love of nature and theoutdoors led to her involvement in Girl Scouting as a troop leader and board member of the Heart of Texas Girl Scout Council for a decade. She was also amember of the Parker County Retired Teachers Association as well as theParkinson¹s Support Group of Tarrant County.Her ability to be a loving, supportive mother of nine children, caringspouse and dedicated teacher will be greatly missed by her family andfriends. Mom will long be remembered for her kindness, her generosity andher positive attitude.Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Murphey, and herson, Timothy A. Murphey. Survivors include her children, Kathryn Murphey ofFort Worth, Daniel Murphey and wife, Darleen of Fort Worth, Marilynn M.Machin and husband, James of Austin, Marjorie M. Camacho and husband, Vaughnof Austin, Robert Murphey of Fort Worth, Barbara Weissman of Los Angeles,Calif., Rebecca Johnston and husband, Monty of Weatherford, Patricia RauchBarnes and husband, Robin of Bend, Org., Jennifer Finstad and husband, Barryof Cranfills Gap. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and threegreat-grandchildren.Visitation is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at White¹sFuneral Home in Weatherford. Services will be held at Emmanuel BaptistChurch at 1 p.m. Friday. Interment will be in Memory Gardens of the ValleyMemorial Park in Weatherford.
