SPRINGTOWN -- SSgt. Anthony Luke Mason, 37, of Springtown, died Sept. 18, 2008, in a Chinook helicopter crash while supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom in Tallil, Iraq. Funeral: 1 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Springtown, 500 North Main Street, Springtown. Interment: With full military honors in Springtown Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at White's Funeral Home, 401 North Main Street, Springtown. Memorials: A memorial fund has been established in Luke's name at all local branches of First Bank. Anthony Luke Mason was born Oct. 19, 1970, to James Clyde and Mary Jean Boynton Mason. SSgt. Mason was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 149th Aviation, 36th Combat Aviation Brigade of the Texas Army National Guard, based in Grand Prairie. Luke was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mary Irene Boynton (adoptive mother) of Azle in 1992. Survivors: Wife, Melanie Mason; daughters, Nikki, Jamie, Megan, and Sarah Mason, all of Springtown; grandfather, Robert Boynton (adoptive father) of Azle; step-grandparent, Anita Boynton; mother and step-father, Mary Jean and Floyd Harmon of Agnes; father, James Mason; siblings, Annette Cihak and Wesley Mason, both of Azle; and half-brothers, J.B. and Ray Mason, both of Springtown; and a host of loving friends.
