Jerry "Don" Whitehead beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother went to be with our Lord on Thursday, January 24, 2008. Graveside Service: 1:00 P.M. Monday in Proctor Cemetery near Dublin. Visitation: 3 to 5 P.M. Sunday at White's Azle Funeral Home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Unicef or St. Jude's Hospital for Children. Mr. Whitehead fought a courageous battle for three years against brain cancer. He was surrounded by his family and will be greatly missed. The son of the late Coy Allen Whitehead and Irene Sims Whitehead. He lived in the Edna Hill community, and attended the Dublin schools. After graduation from Dublin High School, he joined the Air Force in 1964. While stationed at Mountain home AFB, Idaho he met and married Mary H. Transue on August 9, 1968 in Kuna, Idaho at the First Baptist Church. So began 39 years of adventure. Blessed with three wonderful sons, James, Jesse and Johnny. Jerry served in aircraft maintenance, ground radio operations, aerospace control, and warning systems for 20 years before his retirement. The family moved to Azle following retirement in 1985. For a number of years he worked for a local lawnmower/jet ski shop in sales and management.Jerry enjoyed fishing, camping, Civil war history, genealogy and family activities. He was excellent at home repairs and kept his home running smoothly. He was a good role model for his sons. A loving husband and hard worker, who always cared about family. Jerry was preceded in death by a brother, James Whitehead in 1957, father, Coy Whitehead in 1999 and his mother, Irene Sims Whitehead in 2001. Survivors: wife of 39 years, Mary Whitehead; sons, James Whitehead and wife, Frances of Azle, Jesse Whitehead and wife, Charlene of Bowie, and Johnny Whitehead and wife, Kristine of Azle; grandchildren, Devon Whitehead, Dawson Lorenz, Kasey and Ashton Wheeler of Azle; siblings, Bobby Whitehead and wife, Yvonne of Kermit, Fay Simpson of Dublin, May Gray of Clyde, Wanda Richmond and husband, Bob of Dublin, Kay Arnold of Lewisville and Reta Elliott and husband, Mike of Aztec, New Mexico and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
