John "J.C." Carter Clark, Jr., 88, of Boyd, Texas, passed away Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008, at a hospital in Decatur, Texas.Funeral services: 2:00 p.m., Thursday, Jan 17, at White's Azle Funeral Home Chapel. Burial to follow in Azleland Cemetery. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.J.C. was born November 29, 1919 in Rosston, Arkansas the son of the late John and Jewell Clark. Shortly after his birth, the family moved around, going to Oklahoma, Texas, and back to Arkansas. While in Arkansas, he went to school until the 6th grade at which point he was put to work in the cotton fields to help his dad. J.C. was a decorated veteran of WWII. At the age of 16 he joined the CCC Camp where he trained in Tempe, Arizona. In 1942, he attempted to join the Army; however was told that he didn't weigh enough to join. With great determination, J.C. went to the store, bought bananas and ate enough to pass the weigh in. After training in Texas, he ended up in Fort Dix, New Jersey. J.C. was then deployed to Europe and landed on Normandy Beach on D-Day. After fighting his way through to Metz, France, he was wounded and received a Bronze Arrowhead and a Purple Heart. J.C. was hospitalized for 15 months in California. He later returned to his parent's home in Texarkana, and met his future wife in January 1945. J.C. and Betty were married in May of 1946. Mr. Clark went to work for RRAD in 1946 and retired after 27 years. He then moved to N. Central Texas where he lived until his death. J.C. was a former Scout Master of Troop 23. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, RL Clark, Murrah Clark, and Jewell V Reed; and son, Jerry Clark.Survived by his wife of 61 1/2 years, Betty L (Thomas) Clark; sons, Frank Clark and wife Sharlotte of Cottondale, James G Clark of Texarkana; daughter-in-law, Debbie Clark of Texarkana, AR; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Cherry; sister-in-law, Sue Morrison of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
