Curtis Andrew Guess, 83, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend went home to his Lord, Sunday, December 30, 2007 after forfeiting a courageous fifteen year battle to Alzheimer's disease.Born to Elizabeth Thomas and Floyd Edgar Guess on June 16, 1924 in Parker County, Curtis graduated from Millsap High School and enlisted in the United States Navy. He served as a ship-fitter from 1944 to 1946 on the USS Cascade, where he was honored with medals. Upon his discharge from the Navy, Curtis returned home to Millsap and married the love of his life, Jean Bell. Because of his love and respect for the land, nature, and animals, he became a rancher and farmer. Curtis was a faithful and active member of Couts Memorial United Methodist Church where he served as a past president of the Stewards for Christ Sunday school class. He was a member and past director of the Parker County Sheriff's Posse and a past member of the Hospital Board. He delighted in being a member of the "42 Bunch". He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Orena and Lorene; and brothers, Millard and Odell C. "Bill" Guess.Curtis was a good and honorable man and his family and many friends will mourn his passing.Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Jean; daughter, Vickie Durant and husband, Jerry; grandson, Brian Durant and Kat Lenckosz; granddaughter, Diane McGurren and husband, Marc; great-granddaughter, Kindel Durant; sister, Wanda Snow and husband, Frank; sisters-in-law, Helen Guess and Dortha "Dot" Guess; numerous nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, January 3, 2008 at Couts Memorial United Methodist Church. The family will receive guests 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at White's Funeral Home in Weatherford.The family would like to thank the staff of Arbor House and Alpha Omega Hospice for the devotion of love and heartwarming care for Curtis.Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of North Central Texas, 101 Summit Avenue, Ste. 300, Fort Worth, Texas 76102 or Couts Memorial United Methodist Church, 802 N.
