Arthur F. Chance, 85, of Weatherford died Saturday, December 29, 2007 at a local care center. Arthur was born in Pilot Point, Texas and was a SMU graduate. He was a real estate broker and banker in the Dallas area for many years. A pilot of a B-17 in WWII, on his 35th and last assigned combat mission, he and his crew were shot down over Frankfurt Germany in November of 1944. After a successful parachute jump he was captured and spent several months as a prisoner of war in a Stalag prison camp. He was honorably discharged in 1945 and was the recipient of two Bronze Stars.Arthur loved to play the harmonica and he and his wife were active members of the DFW HOOT harmonica club. He was preceded in death by his wife Blanche. The Chance's had been married for 48 years. He is survived by a cousin, Jessie Leigh, in Fredericksburg Texas and friends Richard and Nancy Edwards of Weatherford.Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at Whites' Funeral Home with a private burial to follow at Tin Top Cemetery.Memorial donations may be made to Central Christian Church, P O Box 126, Pilot Point, Texas 76258 or a charity of your choice.
