Charles August Eichelkraut, 81, passed away Thursday, July 19, 2007. Inurnment: Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery at a later date.Charles was born May 28, 1926 in Chicago to August and Helen Eichelkraut. He graduated in 1944 from Lane Tech and served his country in WWII by flying P-51's for the Army Air Corps. Chuck married Twila while serving in Denver in 1945. They had just celebrated 62 years of marriage. Chuck and Twila lived briefly in Boston, but settled in Chicago for many years while raising their two sons. Charles had a long and distinguished career with Ecko Product and Smoler Bros., eventually rising to V.P. of Sales. He continued his love of flying while serving as a Lt. Col. in the Civil Air Patrol. In 1974 dad saved a woman's life by flying her to the Mayo Clinic for an emergency operation. In 1979 Mom and Dad moved to Fort Worth where Charles retired from Motorola in 1990. Charles was a lover of animals and an avid outdoorsman. He was a fisherman, bowhunter, and a champion archer. Chuck was a member of Fox Valley Archers, the Cowtown Bowmen, and the Fort Worth Rifle and Pistol Club. A flight instructor, he also loved sports cars, boats and motorcycles. Dad was a faithful husband and father. His family will miss him, but are at peace in the assurance that we will see him again. Survivors: wife, Twila; sons, Scott and David, daughter-in-law, Vicki and several true friends.
