Ana Ruth Van Meter

Ana Ruth Van Meter, 78, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on Saturday, April 7,2007 in Fort Worth.Ruth was born September 19, 1929 in Escuintla, Guatemala. She lived there with her mother, a degreed educator and missionary, and her father, a pharmacist, until the age of 14. Ruth was then sent to boarding school in Laredo, Texas to further her educational opportunities. She attended college at Oklahoma Presbyterian College in Durant, Okla. earning a degree in elementary education. There she met her husband of 46 years, Bob Van Meter. Ruth taught school for 38 years. She was a 6th grade science teacher in Weatherford for 23 years. While teaching and raising her children she also earned her masters degree from North Texas State University now the University of North Texas.Her family, her church, her friends and her work were all very important to her. Even after retirement Ruth continued to tutor at the middle school where she had taught. She was a volunteer at Mana and the Women's Shelter in Weatherford. She also began to learn Italian and loved to attend church and sing in the choir. Her five grandchildren were the center of attention anytime they were with her.Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Van Meter.Survivors include her son, Keith Van Meter and wife, Joni of Fort Worth; daughter, Sue Glassman and husband, Gary of San Antonio; grandchildren, Kelsey, Ross, and Kate Van Meter; Noah and Jordan Glassman.Funeral services are scheduled 2:00 PM, Saturday at White's Funeral Home, 130 Houston Avenue, Weatherford. Her memory may be honored with gifts to the North Texas Alzheimer's Association, 101 Summit Avenue, Suite 300, Fort Worth, Texas 76102 or the First United Methodist Church, 301 S.
